100 Jahre Leica Fotografie, Munich

100 Jahre Leica Fotografie, Munich

This weekend in Munich: pouring rain. We went to Kulturstiftung where they have the an exhibition on 100 years Leica Photography until 5th June, 2016.

The Leica Camera changed how we see the world: the kiss on Times Square from Henri Cartier-Bresson, the children fleeing from Napalm in Vietnam captured by Nick Út, the Sowjet Flag on the Berlin Reichstag by Jewgeni Chaldej- all these images have been captured with Leica and will forever stay in our memory.

It was Leica who has enabled photographers to take images like that, due to its size you could take spontaneous photographs, instead of staging pictures.

In this exhibition there are 16 chapters(!): from journalism to documentary, from fashion to street photography. More than 300 photographs are displayed by renowned photographers: Henri Cartier-Bresson, Joel Meyerowitz, Mark Cohen and many others.

In my opinion: the exhibition was overwhelming, so many different aspects - 100 years- all in one place. I would have preferred to focus on Leica and Journalism or Leica and Fashion Photography, therefore you see a lot but you are only scratching the surface.
