Rügen Island, Germany
Just a short train ride (Deutsche Bahn "Ostseeticket") from Berlin (3.5 hours) and Binz welcomes you fresh sea air, a long sandy beach, and an endless horizon. This makes Rügen a perfect getaway to unwind and relax from city life.
- Gosch: After a day at the beach, enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine and fresh seafood on the terrace of this low-key restaurant. Depending on the season, I'd highly recommend the fresh mussels cooked in white wine.
- SUP Surfing: the bay of Binz is 5,5 km long with fine sand and provides an ideal spot for all types of water sports: windsurfing, sailing and SUP surfing. All beach accesses in Binz are numbered; at number 28 you will find "Strandbar 28" for drinks, renting a "Strandkorb" or any type of water sport equipment. Here we've tried SUP surfing for the first time; it was much easier than anticipated. There was no strong current and the view from the sea onto the beach or onto the horizon helps clearing the mind.
WHERE TO STAY
- CERÊS: located directly on the busy beach promenade of Binz, step inside and time will automatically slow down... Upon check-in you are welcomed with hot towels and tea. The rooms on three floors are elegant where neutral colors set the tone. The small balconies, many with seaside views, are a good spot for ordering room-service breakfast enjoying a sundown drink. The Senso SPA (open until 09:00 pm) is inspired by water: a round salt-water pool, sauna, steam-bath and treatments rooms (including floating) invite guests to relax.
